Saint Tropez

Originally a phoenician settlement, St Tropez was abandoned and resettled by Genoese, who fortified the town and built the citadel. In 1637, a Spanish naval attack on the town was repulsed. Louis XIV took St Tropez in 1672 and Vauban made some alterations to the defences.
