Fort Lagarde

Fort Lagarde, above Prats de Mollo, originated as a watchtower set up by the King of Majorca to watch the Col d'Arès, the pass over the mountains from Spain. A fort was built on the site in 1677 at Vauban's instigation. It saw action in 1793, during the French Revolutionary Wars. The fort is in good condition today and can be visited.
