My name is Dominic Goode, I am a student in England, where I am studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering with French. In 2004, I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a Charles de Gaulle Bursary, offered by the British Council, which provides £1000 for students from the UK to spend four weeks in France carrying out an individual research project of their own devising. My project was, naturally, to study the fortresses of the great French engineer Vauban. |
I visited over 20 fortresses in France in summer 2004, listed below. Part of the project was the creation of this site, designed to be a resource for those interested in fortresses or history of Vauban's period. Although many of the articles on this site will be written by me, I am looking for people to write articles and provide pictures for the site. So if you live near a fortified place of the Vauban period in Europe or elsewhere please contact me if you are willing to write for the site or simply provide some pictures. You will of course receive full credit for your work. My email address: dominicgoode@hotmail.com |
